After record rainfall, a broken treatment plant tainted Jackson’s tap water.
President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration for the state of Mississippi this week, ordering federal assistance for recent flooding and now a water crisis in the state’s capital of Jackson. A water treatment plant that has suffered from long-standing issues broke down on Monday, contaminating the water supply.
The emergency declaration authorizes the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to begin coordinating all disaster relief efforts. Governor Reeves has called up the state’s National Guard to assist with relief for the city of Jackson and warned residents not to drink water from the tap as the issue will take time to resolve.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and his administration as they assess the needs of states experiencing emergencies for federal assistance.
- For wisdom for Administrator Criswell as she heads FEMA and its recovery assistance to states.
- For the safety of the residents of Jackson and the people of Mississippi as they avoid tap water and recover from the flooding.
